Sunday Funday

Great day in the shop!

I had a great day in the shop on Sunday, using just about every tool I possess to get a lot of work done. (Plus, the Bears won and the Cubs have home field advantage for the wild card against the Padres. Go Cubbies!)

I used the table saw and band saw to create 52 hooks that I’ll be able to clamp to the ribs to help hold the cedar strips in place once I start gluing them down.

I used a detail router to create the smooth edges on the transom knee. A detail sander was used to smooth the surface. This piece is ready for installation!

A hand power grinder was used to create this bevel on the hog. The bevel matches the angle of the transom so they’ll fit together with a strong bond.

I had to use the jointer to get the hog to the correct width for fitting into the slots on the tops of the rib forms. One pass through the router, taking off 1/16″ off of the width and the fit was perfect.

A Shinto rasp was used to flatten the surfaces of all of the bevels I had created. I noticed the beveled surfaces had slight bows in them. Flattening them with the Shinto will make all of my surface joints heartier.

I used the disc sander to sharpen my pencil.
