It takes a lot of room to mill 16′ planks, so I set up in the drive outside my garage. This took a while to get it the way I wanted it so I spray painted markings on the ground to mark placement of stations.

As I’m cutting these planks into 3/4″ wide strips I want to keep them in order. When I place them on the hull I’ll put them on in order, or book match them. This will give the hull a very distinctive and refined look. I’ve drawn lines on the end grain of the plank to help me keep everything organized.

The completed pile of planks cut into 3/4″ strips. I’ve wrapped each cut up plank together so they don’t get out of order. If you look closely you can see the lines I’ve marked on the ends, still in order. I have cut 50 3/4″ strips.
Next phase: Turn each strip on its side and cut them 1/4″ wide to give me 1/4″ x 3/4″ strips. I will need at least 105 of them. I think this pile will yield at least 112.
Time to cut 50 strips: 5 hours. Total time of project to date: 13 hours.
